Eating Disorders: What Every Professional Needs to Know

What Every Professional Needs To Know.png

A one-day, in-person training for clinicians, therapists, dietitians and allied health professionals who want to feel more confident working with clients affected by eating disorders and disordered eating.

It's designed as a foundation-level day and assumes no prior specialist knowledge. It is built for clinicians who don't work in eating disorders and don't intend to, and who nonetheless keep meeting them.

What the day covers:

  • What eating disorders look like in ordinary consultations, across different ages, genders and body sizes

  • How these conditions develop, and what keeps them going

  • How to raise the subject when you suspect something, and what not to say

  • What to do with the answer, including when and where to refer

  • What happens after a referral, so you can tell a patient what to expect

The day is also relevant to more experienced clinicians working in the field, who may benefit from refreshed perspectives, reflection on blind spots, and updated evidence-informed approaches.

Why it matters...

Eating disorders are more prevalent than most clinicians realise, and they come round rarely enough in any single practice that the pattern never has a chance to build. In a study of 35,404 adults in England and Northern Ireland who already had an eating disorder recorded in their notes, three in four had no record of a referral to specialist services (Gao et al., The Lancet Primary Care, 2026).

The gap is in training, not in care.
